Cardano adopts new constitution

Cardano has formally adopted its Constitution, which is one step closer to providing decentralized governance. Founder Charles Hoskinson announced the milestone in a video broadcast on Tuesday, stating that the final version of the Constitution replaces the interim one. The ratification vote saw 85% of the participants supporting the new Constitution. While 6.62% of participants were against it, 7.68% of participants were among those who did not vote for it. The Cardano Constitution has been ratified. This milestone sets the foundation for on-chain governance, ensuring clear rules, transparency, and accountability in decision-making. It will be fully enacted on 23 February 2025, shaping how Cardano evolves—guided by its community. pic.twitter.com/sYsZR4hPHu — Cardano Foundation (@Cardano_CF) February 19, 2025 Hoskinson congratulated the ecosystem, stating , “This is a special broadcast I’m very proud to make. Allow me to be one of the first to congratulate the entire Cardano ecosystem for reaching the ratification threshold for the Constitution.” A collaborative effort in decentralized governance The constitution-formation process lasted two years and involved more than 1800 participants from 50 countries. He acknowledged the challenges when it came to the process, noting that many thought that it wouldn’t happen. Although the Constitutional Committee’s support was unanimous, it went beyond the 67% needed to legitimize the document. He drew parallels between Cardano’s successes and the hurdles that come with passing a US federal Constitutional amendment. “But we did it here, across the world,” he said about the decentralized aspect of Cardano’s governance. Cardano’s governance framework is now fully operational now that the Constitution has been put in place. The ecosystem is comprised of over 800 decentralized stakeholders and more than 108,000 delegators are participating in decision-making, actively. According to Hoskinson, Cardano is now ‘unstoppable’ because it no longer depends on a single central authority. The next stage is finalization of the product roadmap and budget. Additionally, the interim members of the Constitutional Committee will stop functioning, and elections will be held later this year as the members’ terms expire in September. “From now on, Cardano will be governed by elected officials, which means Cardano is now a government,” Hoskinson stated. He added that the Constitution is a living document that develops based on feedback from the community and improvement of the governance. This adaptability helps to make sure that Cardano sticks to the needs of its users as the ecosystem starts to grow. Competitors can’t catch up Hoskinson has also boldly claimed its dominance, saying that it has an irreversible lead. “Our advantage and lead is so significant, they can never catch us,” he said. He identified partnerships with BitcoinOS, the Cardano-focused privacy project Midnight, and scaling protocols such as Leios specific to key developments in the ecosystem. “We have the largest governance layer now, which means we’re the smartest cryptocurrency ecosystem. We can crowdsource any idea any strategy and augment it with AI. My lord! We are unstoppable as an ecosystem. And not only can we crowdsource it, we can also converge to a single, common understanding,” he added. Cryptopolitan Academy: Are You Making These Web3 Resume Mistakes? - Find Out Here
